PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified polyvinyl acetal resin having an excellent dielectric property and an excellent compatibility with and adhesion to thermosetting resins. SOLUTION: A modified polyvinyl acetal resin mainly comprises a repeating unit of formula I (wherein each R1 is independently an aryl group optionally having a substituent, an aralkyl group or an aryl group-containing alkenyl group; R2 is a hydrogen atom or a 1-10C alkyl group; R3 is a 1-20C divalent hydrocarbon group optionally having a substituent; and a, b, c, d and e each represents the proportion (mol%) of each structural unit in the formula and satisfy 0<a<=85, 0<b<=80, 0<=c<=50, 0<=d<=30 and 0<e<=50).
