PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide resin having solubility in organic solvents, a low solution viscosity, and high processability. SOLUTION: Provided are a polyimide resin comprising repeating units represented by formulae I, II, and III [wherein Ar is a tetravalent organic group; abN, cdN, and efN, which may be the same or different from each other, are each an unsubstituted amino, a cyclic amide, or an amino substituted with a 1-10C alkyl, an aryl, trimethylsilyl, a two- to seven-membered divalent hydrocarbon group, or a mono- or di-valent acyl, provided that cdN and efN in the same repeating unit may be combined with each other to form a divalent group represented by the formula: -NH-CE-NH- (A) (wherein CE is a divalent hydrocarbon or acyl group) and a novel compound useful as a material for producing the polyimide resin.
