PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new 4,4'-bis(1,3,5-triazinylamino)stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid derivative capable of exhibiting a high solubility and advantageously usable especially as a fluorescent brightener. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the general formula (I) [R11 and R12 are each hydrogen atom, a substituted or an unsubstituted alkyl group; R21 is hydrogen atom, a substituted or an unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or an unsubstituted aryl group or L1-CH2OH; R22 is hydrogen atom, a substituted or an substituted alkyl group, a substituted or an substituted aryl group or L2-CH2OH; L1 and L2 are each a 2-8C alkylene group having hydroxyl group or a 1-3C hydroxyalkyl group as a substituent group or an ether bond in the course thereof; and M is hydrogen atom, an alkali atom, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium or pyridinium].
