PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple, safe and economical method for producing epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG) in a pure form intended for incorporation, as an ingredient, into food for promoting nutrition or foodstuff. SOLUTION: This method for producing EGCG comprises the following steps: (a) feeding green tea extract; (b) subjecting the green tea extract thus fed to chromatography at about 10 to about 80 deg.C using a macroporous polar resin; (c) eluting EGCG from the macroporous polar resin with a polar elution solvent at about 10 to about 80 deg.C and about 0.1 to about 50 bar; (d) as appropriate, concentrating the elute resulted from the step (c); (e) as appropriate, regenerating the macroporous polar resin by desorption of the remaining catechin therefrom; and (f) as appropriate, concentrating the thus desorbed catechin in the step (e). |
