PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a corner pole driving mechanism for an automobile capable of preventing trouble in a driving part by rainwater entered through a drive cord in the driving part of the corner pole for the automobile. SOLUTION: This corner pole driving mechanism for an automobile feeds and draws a drive cord 4 by engaging a rack 4A formed on the drive code 4 for stretching a stretch pole and transmitting driving force from an electric motor 14 to the drive cord 4. A driving gear 11 is a double-geared one comprising a pinion 11A engaged with the rack 4A of the drive code 4, and a worm wheel 11B integrally formed with the pinion 11A and connected with the electric motor 14 through a worm 13. A shielding wall 11C having a larger diameter than of edge circles of the pinion 11A and the worm wheel 11B is formed between the pinion 11A and the worm wheel 11B of the driving gear 11 over an entire periphery of the driving gear 11.
