PURPOSE: An electrophoretic display is provided to be capable of maximizing light efficiency of a liquid crystal display device using an electrophoretic technique. CONSTITUTION: An electrophoretic display cell(200) includes a lower substrate(52) and an upper substrate(56). The lower substrate(52) comprises the first substrate(1a) and the first electrode(50) formed on the first substrate(1a), and the upper substrate(56) comprises the second substrate(1b) and the second electrode(54) formed at an edge of the second substrate(1b). A plurality of charged electrophoretic dye particles(60) exit between the upper substrate(56) and the lower substrate(52), with a predetermined liquid(58) mixed with the dye particles(60). The predetermined liquid(58) does not react upon the charged electrophoretic dye particles(60).
