PURPOSE: A voice communication system and a control method thereof are provided not only to smoothly communicate during a normal elevator operation but also to notify the emergency situation of an elevator. CONSTITUTION: An elevator communication main device(200) comprises a main control unit(220) controlling the connect of a communication wire and a communication medium while controlling the general ability of a system as communication is requested from a phone box(100); an auxiliary control unit(230) performing an auxiliary function while replacing the main control device in emergency; a phone box interface(260) connected to the phone box of an elevator; a telephone interface(250) contacted to a telephone(400); a digital terminal interface(240) supporting to contact with a digital terminal(300); and an external telephone line interface(270) supporting to contact with an external telephone exchange network. In emergency of an elevator, a phone box alarms to the communication main device. The main control unit calls each digital terminal. As the terminal does not respond to the call, contact to a predetermined external telephone is tried. As contact to the external telephone is failed, contact to a next external telephone is continuously tried. Thus, the emergency is notified.
