PURPOSE: A piezoelectric inverter is provided to be capable of simplifying a circuit configuration of the piezoelectric inverter by varying a pulse applied to a drive section using a microcomputer. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer(100) outputs an initial pulse signal to a piezoelectric transformer(50) when a voltage is applied through a power supply section(10). The microcomputer(100) converts into a digital signal an output voltage(Vb) of a current-to-voltage converter(400) and an externally applied dimming control voltage(Va). The microcomputer(100) sums the converted digital signals and compares the summed value with pulse variation information stored in a memory. The microcomputer(100) varies a pulse signal output to a drive section(40) in response to a comparison result. If a voltage sensed by the first resistor group(200) is over a predetermined voltage, the microcomputer(100) judges a cold cathode ray tube(60) as an off state to stop an output of the pulse signal.
