PURPOSE: A method for searching a home system of a terminal having an AMPS(Advanced Mobile Phone Service) system is provided to reject control channels of other provider system until the self home system receives a control channel signal, even though a control channel signal strength is weak, when a received control channel is not in the self home system. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal set as a home only function retrieves a dedicated control channel, to access a base station(S10). The base station transmits a system ID through a control channel, and the mobile terminal performs an overhead information updating(S11). The mobile terminal compares the system ID in an overhead message, and decides whether the system ID is for a home system, then decides whether the control channel is supplied from the self home system(S12). If not, the mobile terminal stores the system ID of the base station, and retrieves a new channel without receiving control channels transmitted from the base station which is not the self home system(S13). If the control channel is from the self home system, the mobile terminal checks many paging channels to select a strongest paging channel(S14). The mobile terminal performs an overhead information verifying operation(S15).
