PURPOSE: A method and a device for deciding a recording location are provided to continuously record a new data through checking the recording location detected as a last recorded location with a real last recorded location. CONSTITUTION: In case of detecting a recording location of a last track in a PMA(program memory area), a detect fail occurs by servo fail or writing fail caused by shock or buffer under run of recording data. Thus, specific tracks are scanned from a recording location detected as a last track by error. Moreover, a binary signal modulated as an EFM(eight fourteen modulation) method outputted from a filter shaping unit is detected for checking existence of data after the detected last track. By existence of the data, the binary signal is continuously detected for searching the real last track. Then, the detected last track and the real last track are session closed to forcibly generate a lead in area and a lead out area for recording a new data.
