The key (1) for inserting or removing a detonator (2) comprises a tube (4) into which the detonator is fitted. This has a safety device which prevents the key from being fitted if there is no safety catch (3) on the detonator. The safety device consists of an inner tube (11) with closed bottom (12) which is biased upwards by a spring (19) towards a position where it covers an indentation (10) on the tube (4). This cooperates with a projection (31) on the detonator when the inner tube slides downwards.
