COMPUTER SYSTEM HAVING LARGE CAPACITY STORAGE DEVICE AND ITS OPERATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drastically flexible method and its device by which different correction technique is easily selected and adopted without requiring main hardware to be related to a large capacity storage device. SOLUTION: The computer system 10 is for executing ECC correction concerning data included in the large capacity data storage device 20 and is provided with a host computer 12 having CPU 14 and the related large capacity data storage device 20. At least several kinds of ECC(error correction coding) hardware are arranged in connection with the device 20 and a device driver 8 is disposed in connection with the host computer 12. The host computer includes a software command to be executed by CPU 14 for executing at least several ECC functions, that is, commands concerning data read from the storage device 20.
