A method for inactivating viruses in a protein-containing solution, wherein: a) a liposaccharide belonging to the disubstituted urethane family of general formula (I), wherein n is an integer from 1 to 20, preferably between 3 and 12, and R<2> is an optionally substituted aldohexose, is added to said solution; and b) after a contact period, the liposaccharide is removed and the purified protein solution is recovered. A pharmaceutical composition containing such a liposaccharide is also provided.
