A program controlled integrated circuit (130) having an input path (164) for receiving an analog signal with given attributes and using a program controlled sequence of treatment stages (166, 172, 178) to generate a bit-defined information vector (182). That vector is introduced to a distributed memory matching array (184) where it is compared with a conveyed instruction set having bit-defined codewords corresponding with an analog signal attribute, where the conveyed instruction set is emanating from the central control unit (148), and introducing from microcontroller (136). A match process under the control of a central control unit (148) then develops a digital result. The digital result may be utilized or converted to analog form in an analog return path (196). Both the input path and the return path incorporate a reduced instruction set computing arithmetic unit (186) under the control of the central control unit (148).
