The gear unit has individual gears (G,1-5) that can be selected sequentially using a foot lever. A neutral gear (N) is arranged between the positions for the first and second gears. An additional gear with a larger transmission than the first gear, as a cross-country gear (G), can be selected by switching the gear lever beyond the first gear position, away from the neutral gear position. The additional gears can be selected by a second operation of the foot lever again in the same direction.
