PURPOSE: A kimchi refrigerator and method for controlling operation of kimchi refrigerator is provided to reduce power consumption by allowing the first valve and the second valve for supplying refrigerant to be sequentially opened. CONSTITUTION: A kimchi refrigerator comprises a cabinet for forming at least a pair of storage compartments, an evaporator for cooling each storage compartment, a compressor for supplying refrigerant to the evaporator, and a first valve and a second valve mounted to the refrigerant pipe for supplying refrigerant from the compressor to each evaporator. A method comprises a step(S1-S5) of judging whether the first valve satisfies the condition for opening the valve during the resting stage of the compressor; a step(S6,S7,S9) of opening the first valve if the first valve satisfies the opening condition, and operating the compressor after an elapse of a predetermined standby time after opening of the first valve; a step(S8) of judging, during the standby time, whether the second valve satisfies the valve opening condition; and a step(S10,S11) of allowing a predetermined delay time to be lapsed after the operation of the compressor if the second valve satisfies the condition, and opening the second valve.
