PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collapsible shaft of a steering device of an automobile for absorbing shock, which is suitable for absorbing primary shock. SOLUTION: In this collapsible shaft 10, an insertion part 14 of a shaft 11 is inserted for connection into a tube 12. The shaft 11 is formed with an inclined side surface 13 which pushes wide the tube 12 sliding in its inner circumferential surface 16 on the tube 12 when pushed in. The tube 12 is formed with a slit extending across the whole length thereof from an opening end 17. The slit 19 allows the tube 12 to develop easily when the shaft 11 is pushed in. Even with a small push-in force, the shaft 11 can be surely pushed in to the deep part of the tube 12 corresponding to the slit 19. The tube 12 is formed in a sectionally circular-arc shape to thereby enhance rigidity of the tube 12 in making both circular-arc ends 20 overlap with each other and prevent generation of looseness. |
