PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a braid-like yarn composed of a composite elastic yarn capable of exhibiting a natural uneven feeling when formed into a cloth by weaving or knitting and to provide a method for producing the braid-like yarn. SOLUTION: This method for producing the braid-like yarn comprises a step of drafting a roving 10 of nonelastic fibers, spinning the roving 10 as a fleece 10a from front rollers 1a, supplying an elastic yarn 11 to be a core while varying a tension thereof, superposing the elastic yarn 11 on the fleece 10a from either one of the front or the rear of the front rollers 1a, twisting or false twisting the superposed elastic yarn 11 and fleece 10a and producing the composite elastic yarn 12 and a step of supplying the produced composite elastic yarn 12 to a knitting machine 3 under the condition in which the nonelastic fibers are extended and knitting the composite elastic yarn 12 into a braid-like form. When the braid-like yarn 14 is kept in a free state without applying a tensile force, unevenness is caused in the thickness thereof. When the braid- like yarn 14 is formed into a cloth, a natural uneven feeling is produced in the cloth.
