PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2-chloro-4-nitroalkylbenzene, by which the nucleus chlorination of a 4-nitroalkylbenzene can industrially be performed in high selectivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2-chloro-4-nitroalkylbenzene comprises chlorinating the benzene nucleus of the 4-nitroalkylbenzene with elementary chlorine or a compound releasing the chlorine in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst and a diarylsulfide cocatalyst in a liquid phase.
