PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the loosening of the tip of the following strip on a winding pinch roll inlet side after the cut of a strip. SOLUTION: This method of winding a strip comprises cutting a strip sent out from a rolling mill by a strip shear 2 to divide it into a preceding material S1 and a following material S2, and feeding the tip of the following material S2 to a mandrel 7 side different from a mandrel for winding the preceding material S1. In this method, the feeding speed set value of a pinch roller 5 after the cut is set smaller than the winding speed set value of the mandrel for winding the preceding material S1 and larger than the intended plate speed of the strip before the cut, and a deceleration-side torque limit is set in the drive motor 17 of the pinch roller 5 so that the feeding speed of the pinch roll 4 is higher than the carrying speed of the following material S2 when the tip of the following material S2 is bitten to the pinch roller 5.
