The invention relates to an axle wheel for rolling stock, applicable to railway cars and /or engines. According to the invention, the axle wheel for rolling stock is provided on each side with an annular groove (17 and 18) located between the rolling crown (7) and the side provided with the braking surfaces (4). These annular grooves (17 and 18) are located at the same diameter on the axle wheel (1) and have a nearly V-shaped cross-section defined by some surfaces (19 and 20) perpendicular to the surface of the wheel sides and continued at the upper side with a truncated cone-shaped surface (20) technically linked, said surface preventing the concentration of stresses at the intersection between the surfaces (19 and 20). Thus, the annular groove (17) in front of the rolling crown (7) is deeper than the annular groove (18) on the opposite side.
