PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photo-image recording material having high sensitivity without using silver halide and having satisfactory image preservability as a photo-image recording material which forms a latent image under light and performs image recording, and to provide a photo-image recording method. SOLUTION: The photo-image recording material 1 has a recording layer 3 on the substrate 1. The recording layer 3 contains at least a photo-acid generating agent, a precursor of a developer and an electron donative leuco dye. The precursor is a material which forms an electron accepting compound having a phenolic hydroxyl group under a generated acid. The recording layer 3 is positive-imagewise irradiated with light of a specified wavelength to form an acid latent image and then the layer 3 is heated to form the objective positive image.
