PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and instrument for accurately measuring the concentration of CaCO3 in slurry without using any pH meter. SOLUTION: After an acid, such as the hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc., is added from an acid tank 4 to an acid adding tank 3 while slurry containing a carbonate is made to flow to a measurement tank 8, the concentration of dissolved CO2 in the slurry is measured by means of a dissolved CO2 meter 9 and the flow rate of the slurry flowing through the measurement tank 8 is measured by means of a slurry flowmeter 14. An instrument for measuring concentration of carbonate in slurry is provided with a computing element 15 which calculates the added amount of the acid which becomes equivalent to the carbonate from the measured value of the concentration of the carbonate corresponding to the concentrations of the added acid and dissolved SO2, finds the added amount of a predetermined excessive acid in accordance with the calculated amount, and measures the concentration of the carbonate in the slurry based on the added amount of the excessive acid.
