PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and device for forming an ultrasonic wave which vibrates in an arbitrary direction without rotating an ultrasonic probe mechanically and a material deterioration diagnostic device using the direction controlling device. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic wave transmitting-receiving section 2a impresses a high-voltage pulse upon a thickness-shear vibrator 101a synchronously to a trigger signal supplied from a material deterioration diagnosing section 4. The vibrator 101a generates a transverse wave 12a. The diagnostic section 4 gives the trigger signal to the transmitting-receiving section 2b when a fixed period of time elapses after the trigger signal is outputted and the section 2b impresses the high-voltage pulse upon the vibrator 101b synchronously to the trigger signal. Another thickness-shear vibration 101b generates another transverse wave 12b. In an object 10 to be inspected, a transverse wave which is the composite wave of the transverse waves 12a and 12b is generated. The vibrating direction of the composite transverse wave can be controlled by controlling the driving voltages impressed upon the transverse waves 12a and 12b. |
