PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity switch dispensing with physical detection or check work by a maintaining/inspecting person, by using a combination of a reed relay and a magnet as the proximity switch. SOLUTION: This proximity switch 1 is made by providing a reed switch 2 in a winding coil 8 and a combination of a reed relay and a magnet 11. The reed relay closes or opens contacts 22a of the switch 2 by the action of a magnetic field produced by passing a current through the coil 8. The switch has a function allowing its on/off motion to be checked by passing a current through the coil 8 regardless of whether the magnet 11 is moved or not.
