At least a portion 17 of a working stream is heated by an external source of heat HE-5. The stream is a mixture of a lower boiling component and a higher boiling component. The mixture is separated into two gaseous rich mixtures. One is a stream "rich" in the lower boiling point component. The rich stream is expanded in turbine T and then combined with the lean stream, and the resulting mixture is condensed. This mixture is pumped back to HE-5. Heat exchanger HE-1 transfers heat to cooling water and another heat exchanger HE-2 transfers heat as shown.
