PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve a desired telephone number out of the sorted telephone numbers by registering telephone number directory records, composed of names and the telephone numbers at least after arbitrarily grouping them by user, selecting one group and retrieving the relevant telephone number record. SOLUTION: A field of group 4 is added to the telephone number directory record composed of three fields of a memory number 1, a name 2 and a telephone number 3, many registered telephone numbers are sorted into a small unit and the telephone number is retrieved out of the telephone numbers sorted into the small unit. A user can group and sort registered directory data 5 into occupation, company, students, friends and relatives, for example, as he likes. Since the telephone numbers are sorted into the groups, the telephone number can be retrieved within information of the small sorted unit of five names and telephone numbers with memory numbers 00, 01, 02, 07 and 08 for example, when an occupation group 4A is selected.
