The belt conveyor (10) comprises an endless belt (12) moving between two end rollers. The belt is supported along its length by a succession of support structures (14). A protection cover (16) extends over the belt transport surface (12A). The support structures comprise a transverse cradle (18) and a ground support frame (20) on which each cradle rests. Cover fixings (40,52) to the ends of each support cradle ensure the cover is held above the belt transport surface.
