PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely cope with a material to be ground having an optional width, so as to decrease an edge drop. SOLUTION: Roll shift devices 8, 13 for moving respective rolls 3, 10 in the roll axial direction are respectively provided on a contact roll 3 for bringing a grinding belt 1 into contact with the front surface of a material to be ground W and a billy roll 10 for loading grinding pressure to the material to be ground W, and taper parts 3t, 10t are respectively provided on one side ends of respective rolls 3, 10. The taper parts 3t, 10t are provided on the mutual opposite end sides, both rolls 3, 10 are shifted in the axial direction by the roll shift devices 8, 13 according to the plate width of the material to be ground W in grinding, and grinding pressure to be applied to the end of the material to be ground W is released, and an edge drop to be generated caused by excessive grinding is decreased. |
