PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general report frame work which integrates information from different protocols and relates them to one each other to make a high-level decision on management. SOLUTION: This general report framework system includes a protocol- peculiar translator communicating with a network 118, a general report framework 254 communicating with the translator, and consumer components communicating with the framework. The translator receives event data elements corresponding to different management protocols from the network 118 and converts them to various standard data structures. A standard data structure includes a general field, an attribute field, and PDU. Consumer components are registered in the framework so that they can receive standard data structures having specific attribute fields. The general report framework 254 transfers proper standard data structures to proper consumer components based on values of attribute fields. A correlator is related to the framework for the purpose of relating standard data structures and fundamentally derives intelligent event data elements as the result of assimilation and logical evaluation of various event data elements.
