PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce to the minimum a distance between a cell divided wheel and an inside wall of a hollow in any state. SOLUTION: A rotary valve feeding bulk material comprises a housing 1 having a hollow 4, a feed opening 2 communicating with the hollow, and an exhaust opening 3. A cell divided wheel 5 supported rotatably is stored in the hollow. A distance 11 between the outer periphery of the cell divided wheel and the inside wall of the hollow is variable. At least one sensor 12 judges a distance, and supplies an output indicating the distance. Either or both of the cell divided wheel and inside wall of the hollow are deformable at least locally according to the output signal. Also, when the cell divided wheel is operated, the distance or clearance is judged or measured and, accordingly, at least either of the inside radial dimensions of the cell divided wheel and hollow is controlled.
