PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce breaks by a static discharge event by layering a passivation layer on a resistor layer, overlapping a protecting layer on the passivation layer and conductively coupling a static discharger to the protecting layer. SOLUTION: A resistor layer 310 for providing a sufficient amount of heat to discharge ink drops is formed on a substrate 305, and a first passivation layer 320 formed of silicon carbide or silicon nitride is formed on the resistor layer 310. Then a second passivation layer or protecting layer 330 including islands 340 mutually connected by bridges 350 partly overlapping with the resistor layer 310 is formed on the first passivation layer 320. Subsequently, a static discharger is conductively coupled to the protecting layer 330 to shunt a static discharge event away from the resistor layer 310.
