PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive suited for obtaining a surface protective film which has good tack and adhesion to the surfaces of various types of materials (objects to be protected) including metallic plates and accordingly, excellent provisional adhesion and, simultaneously, good removability without causing staining such as cloudiness in the surface of an object to be protected and a phenomenon of adhesive transfer, and a surface protective film using the pressure-sensitive adhesive. SOLUTION: A pressure-sensitive adhesive is obtained by adding 0.01-3 pts.wt. benzotriazole based compound to 100 pts.wt. hydrogenated resin of an elastomer composed of a styrenic compound polymerization block and a styrene/conjugated diene random copolymerization block and/or hydrogenated resin of a styrene/ conjugated diene/styrene block copolymer. A surface protective film is obtained by forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on one side of a substrate layer composed of a polyolefin based resin.
