PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission unit that is storable in compact fashion and is installable in a limited area. SOLUTION: A power transmission unit 20 comprises a sprocket box 30 housing a pair of sprockets 22, and a winder 40 for winding up power transmission members 50. The winder 40 is secured on top of the sprocket box 30. The sprockets 22 each engage with a pair of roller chains. The winder 40 has a volute hollow guide portion 42. When rotation of a drive motor rotates the sprockets 22 in the direction of an arrow C, the power transmission members 50 are in turn moved in the direction of an arrow A with their rear ends 50a in the leading position inflected or turned by some 90 deg. when guided in the guide portion 42 where they are wound up.
