PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate making apparatus of good image dimension reproducibility which is free from the generation of wrinkles, etc., in a master during plate making even when a master of a thin porous support, a master without a porous support, as well as a conventional master are used. SOLUTION: In a plate making apparatus 39 having a master supporting member 8c, a thermal head 11, and a platen roller 10, a back tension applying means 36 for applying back tension F1 to a master 8 located on the upstream side in the master conveyance direction X of the platen roller 10 and a front tension applying means 38 for applying front tension F2 to the master 8 located on the downstream side in the master conveyance direction of the plated roller 10 are provided so that the back tension is made greater than the front tension F2.
