PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely update map data stored in a storage medium (CD) storing map data, which is provided for electronic equipment, into latest contents. SOLUTION: In the case of preparing map source data 31a-31c of respective fiscal year versions, permanent identification information (ID) is added to respective graphic data contained in these data by the providing source of the CD. In the case of preparing CD 11a-11c of respective fiscal year versions from the respective map source data, managing information 33a-33c, for which the ID of respective graphic data and storage positions on these CD are correspondently recorded, are prepared. As information 37 for updating the contents of the CD 11a in the version of fiscal XX into version of fiscal XY, for example, information showing the storage position of the CD 11a and how to update the graphic data at the position is prepared from difference data 35a obtained by comparing the map source data 31a and 31b in the versions of fiscal XX and XY with the managing information 33a for fiscal XX. Then, the information for updating prepared like this is provided to an on-vehicle navigation system or the like.
