PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start recording and reading in an adequate timing without being influenced. by noise in an image information reader using an optical beam scanner SOLUTION: A mask signal Sm making a term in one main scanning term when a sheet leading end part is assumed to be detected defined as an L level is produced in accordance with a main scanning starting point signal H0 showing the starting of the main scanning of the optical beam L by a mask signal producing circuit 30, and the recording and the reading are not started based on a pulse other than the one occurring in a term when the signal Sm is at the L level among leading end detecting signals V0 showing the exisitence of the sheet 59 detected by a detector 22, so that the recording and the reading are prevented from being started in an inadequate timing by electrostatic noise etc., and stray light etc., occurring in a term when the leading end part of the sheet 59 is not assumed to be detected.
