PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a melting furnace in which the velocity and tap flow rate are controlled with the magnitude of a DC field acting perpendicularly to the tap flow in a tapping passage. SOLUTION: A tapping mechanism 2 comprises a funnel type passage body 9 forming a tapping passage by arranging a plurality of vertically split conductive segments 8 buried with a cooling means in the circumferential direction while insulating from each other, a heating coil means 10 disposed on the outer circumference thereof, an AC power supply control means 11 for supplying the heating coil means 10 with power while controlling correctly, a magnetic body 3 having the opposite ends 3N, 3S positioned oppositely on the outer periphery of the passage body 9, an exciting coil means 4 wound around the magnetic body 3, a flowmeter 6 for detecting the tap flow rate, and a DC power supply control means 5 for supplying the exciting coil means with power while controlling correctly based on a detected flow rate. The melting furnace comprises a housing body 7 forming a chamber 7a for housing molten metal, and a tapping mechanism disposed on the bottom thereof.
