PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of correcting irregular luminance caused by an optical system unit for processing pictures. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a backlight unit, plural transmission type display units arranged on the same plane by leaving a space in-between, a screen, and the optical system unit including a Fresnel concave lens and processing and projecting the pictures displayed on the plural transmission type display units so that they may be a continuous picture on the screen. The backlight unit is constituted so that light from a light source may be emitted from micro elements arrayed in an array state, and has distribution on the light passing effective area (effective area for taking the light passing through a light transmission body 3 from the light sources 4a to 4d in the micro prism 10 constituting the micro element, that is, the contact area of the prism 10 with the light transmission body 3) of the micro elements arrayed in the array state. Thus, the irregular luminance caused by the optical system unit is corrected.
