PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent operational trouble incident to temperature drop of molten metal by raising the molten temperature when a cold iron source is tapped while being melted under a state where the cold iron source is present continuously in a preheating chamber and a melting chamber using an arc melting facility having a preheating chamber coupled directly with a melting chamber. SOLUTION: In a method for melting a cold iron source in an arc melting facility 1A comprising a melting chamber 2 having arc generating electrodes 7, 8, and a shaft type preheating chamber 3 coupled directly with an upper part thereof and melting a cold iron source 18 in the preheating chamber by introducing exhaust gas generated in the melting chamber, a raised section 2c is provided on the bottom of the melting chamber on the preheating chamber side. The cold iron source is melted while being fed continuously or intermittently while keeping a state where the cold iron source is present continuously in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber. Subsequently, molten metal is tapped in a state where the cold iron source is present continuously in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber before the level of molten metal 19 in the melting chamber reaches the raised section.
|
