PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photographic sensitive material high in sensitivity and contrast and low in fog and small in occurrence of fog due to the lapse of time. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic sensitive material contains a compound represented by the following general formula (I): L1-Au(I)-S-R1}Xn in which L1 is a compound having at least one instable sulfur or selenium or tellurium group capable of reacting with silver halide to produce silver sulfide, selenide, or telluride; R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon or aryl or heterocyclic group and L1 and R1 may combine with each other; X is a counter salt necessary to neutralize the charge of the gold complex; and (n) is 0 or 1.
