PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To configure a communication equipment for a communication system, which adopts a configuration of communication frames whose first data area is an M-bit arbitration area, with a few hardware resources. SOLUTION: In this communication equipment, transmission data in a memory 12 are transferred to an N-bit data buffer 20t in a communication device 14 by N (>M) bits each under the control of a DMA controller 16 in the case of transmission, a transmission reception section 21 of the communication device 14 outputs data in the buffer 20t by one bit each to a communication line 2 and receives the data in the buffer 20t by one bit each. On the other hand, when a discrimination section 26 detects defeated by arbitration during the transmission of the data in an area of the buffer 20t, the transmission is stopped, a CPU 10 reversely sets a data transfer direction by the DMA controller 16 again and every time the transmission reception section 21 completes the reception of data by N-bits after that, the received data are transferred from an N-bit data buffer 20r in the communication device 14 to a memory 12.
