The unit (10) has a first coupling area (19), in which it can be coupled to a drive unit, and a second coupling area (21), in which it can be coupled to the gearing to transfer torque, so that it only transfers driving or braking moments between the drive unit and the gearing. The unit has pump (16) and turbine (24) wheels and a working fluid to form a fluid torque coupling between them. Independent claims are included for a drive system including the coupling unit and a method to assemble the drive system.
