The universal electronic device has a digital noise stage with a memory (2) storing digital noise data, for simulating the noise of an actual locomotive and an integrated digital decoder for train control. The digital noise data held in the memory can be updated as required, e.g. via an IR or radio remote link and the read-out of the noise data can be controlled in dependence on the setting off, the acceleration, the braking and the standing of the locomotive.
