PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coater having a coater die with uniform and excellent coating performance by keeping the dimensional strength of a die block constituting the coater die at a specified value, controlling the liq. pressure (viscosity and flow rate) of adjacent layers and adding a means for reinforcing the die block constituting the uppermost or lowermost layer, thereby uniformalizing the flow rate distribution in the width direction. SOLUTION: This coater has a slide hopper-type coater die 1A formed by restricting the respective matching faces at the end of of each die block 11 having a coating soln. inlet, a liq. storage pocket 22 and slit forming part by each other or an extrusion-type coater die. In this case, a sufficient flexibility to keep the distortion of a width gap at the tip of a slit 23 against the liq. pressure exerted on each die block 11 within 1% of the gap is imparted to each die block.
