A method of compensating for reactive voltage loss in a supply conductor K of an alternating current supply system for traction comprises inserting a capacitance C into a feeder conductor N of the system to which a voltage is applied which is out-of-phase with the voltage applied to the supply conductor, but not inserting a capacitance into the supply conductor K. The system may be an autotransformer system, the feeder conductor N being a negative feeder, or it may be a three-phase system in which two of the phases supply parallel tracks and the capacitance is inserted into the remaining phase. |
