PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily maintain and control the high efficiency of an anaerobic digestion tank by separating the treated water from granular sludge by using a simple filter material in an anaerobic digestion tank of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket method. SOLUTION: The method for anaerobic treatment of water and the method for producing methane feature that a simple filter material is used to separate the treated water from granular sludge 9 in the anaerobic digestion tank 3 of the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket method.
