摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the electrical asymmetricalness between both substrates of a liquid crystal display device which varies in pretilt angle between both substrates, such as an R-OCB mode liquid crystal display device, and to improve the display grade thereof. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the liquid crystal display device which has the first substrate 301 and second substrate 308 facing each other and a liquid crystal layer 304 grasped between both substrates to each other and varies in the absolute values of the pretilt angles between the liquid crystal molecules existing near the first substrate 301 and the liquid crystal molecules existing near the second substrate 308, a first alignment film 303 formed on the surface in contact with the liquid crystal layer of the first substrate and a second alignment layer 306 formed on the surface in contact with the liquid crystal layer of the second substrate are formed of the same material and only either of the first alignment film 303 or the second alignment layer 306 is subjected to rubbing treatment.
