PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject compound in high yield by oxidizing a specific pyrroline compound in the presence of an acid with a peroxide. SOLUTION: (A) A pyrroline compound which is any of formulae I to III [R1 to R2 are each H, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkenyl, a (substituted) phenyl, an alkyl having an aromatic substituent group or an alkenyl having an aromatic substituent group] (e.g. 1-benzyl-3-pyrroline or 1-cyclohexyl-3-pyrroline) is oxidized in the presence of (B) an acid (e.g. sulfuric acid or methanesulfonic acid) with (C) a peroxide, preferably potassium hydrogen peroxomonosulfate, sodium peroxodisulfate, ammonium peroxodisulfate or m-chloroperbenzoic acid to thereby produce the objective compound, e.g. 1-benzyl-3,4-epoxypyrrolidine. In the above reaction, the component B is preferably used in an amount of 1.0-3.0 mol based on 1 mol of the component A and the component C is preferably used in an amount of 1.0-2.0 mol based on 1 mol of the component A. |
