PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that can pick up the image of a frame still image as well as a field dynamic image with a simplified entire circuit configuration. SOLUTION: Image pickup signals of an odd numbered line and an even numbered line exposed with the same timing and which are not subjected to summing processing in a vertical direction are obtained from a CCD(charge- coupled device) 103 of an interlace drive system in this image pickup device, when picking up a still image and once stored in an image memory 112. Then a vertical summing circuit 108 vertically sums image pickup signals of two lines adjacent vertically, and the image memory 112 stores the summed signal. Then a camera section video signal processing circuit 109 receives the image pickup signal summed vertically from the odd numbered lines in the odd numbered fields and the image pickup signal vertically summed from the even numbered lines in the even numbered fields respectively, and a YC(luminance/ chrominance) signal is generated through the signal processing of the same field color difference line sequential system as that for the image pickup of a dynamic image.
